Kenya’s record-breaking environmental activist, Truphena Muthoni, has revealed the personal journey behind her tree-hugging feats.

Speaking on JKL Live on Citizen TV Sunday night, Muthoni said her conservation work is more than activism—it’s a calling.

“It was not an inspiration from anyone; it was a divine dispensation,” she told the show. “I am going to do it, to represent a true cause and to represent the people and the planet.”

Muthoni traced her love for nature back to age five, saying she has always seen herself as an environmentalist.

“I lost count of the number of trees I have hugged, but this year I have seriously hugged two,” she said.

Her previous 48-hour tree hug had already been ratified and published, and the new 72-hour hug is awaiting official confirmation, a process she says will take five days.

The activist’s record-breaking stunt comes at a time when Kenya continues to face environmental challenges, including deforestation and climate change. Muthoni emphasized that her actions are about raising awareness, not fame.

“I have grown up being an environmentalist, and this is my life’s purpose,” she said, reinforcing her commitment to both people and the planet.

Her dedication is capturing public attention, inspiring discussions about environmental responsibility, and putting Kenya in the spotlight for conservation efforts.
