A Nairobi family got the shock of their lives when a son they had mourned for 15 years suddenly appeared alive – thanks to the intervention of Nairobi County CEC Geoffrey Mosiria.

The man, Timothy, vanished while in Form Two and had not been seen since.

His family, convinced he had died, even held a mass to pay their last respects. But fate had other plans.

Mosiria discovered Timothy living under a tree near Railways Club, next to Green Park, where he had survived on the streets for years. Initially, Timothy was reluctant to trust anyone.

“You are like many others who pretend to help me, then dump me back on the streets,” he told Mosiria.

The CEC acted quickly, arranging a place for Timothy to stay, providing household items, and helping him get a job as a security guard. Today, Timothy earns a living and lives independently.

The story took a dramatic turn after it went viral on social media. Timothy’s mother saw the posts and rushed to Nairobi.

The moment they met was emotional – tears, silence, and an embrace captured a mother’s joy at seeing her son alive after more than a decade.

Mosiria used the reunion to call for action on homelessness, urging leaders and organisations to move beyond sympathy and take accountability for the welfare of street dwellers.

“This is proof that restoration is possible. No one is too lost to be found,” Mosiria said, adding that society must act to give dignity to those forgotten on the streets.

Timothy’s story has now become a symbol of hope, showing that miracles – and second chances – are possible, even for those long presumed lost.
