Nairobi County CEC for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has shared the heart-wrenching story of a young boy named Mike, a street child he rescued from the streets of Nairobi, shedding light on the plight of vulnerable children across the city.
“There are moments in life that touch your heart so deeply, you can never look at the world the same way again,” Mosiria wrote on social media. Despite his harsh circumstances, Mike was a bright boy with dreams hidden beneath years of hardship.
Mosiria took action, bringing Mike to a children’s rehabilitation home where teachers quickly recognized his potential.
“They saw a child who wanted to learn, to belong, to be normal,” he said.
Seeing this promise, Mosiria enrolled Mike in a boarding school, covering fees of Ksh 50,000 per term plus around Ksh 10,000 for extracurricular activities, investing over Ksh 150,000 for just two terms.
For a while, it seemed Mike’s life was on a new path.
He performed well in school, and the teachers were proud. But when school closed, reality struck.
Mike ran back to the streets, revealing a painful truth: his own grandmother, who should have protected him, was sending him and his younger sister to beg in Thika to collect money for herself.
Mosiria acted again, rescuing Mike and returning him to the rehabilitation home, hoping stability and care would help him heal.
Yet the pain and confusion in the child persisted.
On a subsequent attempt to move him to another safe home, Mike ran away once more, and videos of him wandering the streets circulated online, touching hearts and alarming those who had followed his journey.
“Every time I see Mike’s eyes, I see both hope and pain. He is a child who needs more than rescue—he needs consistent care, therapy, guidance, structure, and a safe environment,” Mosiria said.

Determined not to let Mike slip back into danger, he is now pursuing placement in an approved government children’s rehabilitation center, where the boy can access long-term care, education, counseling, and a secure environment that fosters growth and stability.
“No child should be reclaimed from danger again and again. Some souls simply require unwavering commitment to pull them back from the edge. I will do everything in my power to ensure Mike has a future filled with dignity, education, love, and community,” he said.
