Political commentator George Diano has highlighted what he predicts will be President William Ruto’s key strategies as Kenya approaches the 2026 general elections.

According to Diano, the President’s focus will be on consolidating support between Mt Kenya and Luo Nyanza, a region traditionally aligned with the opposition.

Diano suggests that Ruto will aim to strengthen his influence in the region, gradually increasing support for his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in areas historically dominated by other parties.

He anticipates that Nyanza will be a central stop in Ruto’s campaign trail, reflecting the region’s strategic importance.

The commentator also predicts that the President will hold off on announcing his running mate until later in the campaign, citing Mt Kenya’s unpredictable political dynamics as a key factor in the timing.

“Towards mid-2026, there will be significant political shifts,” Diano noted, pointing to potential realignments among political leaders and parties.

While these predictions reflect Diano’s perspective, political analysts caution that Kenya’s political landscape is dynamic and subject to rapid change.

The upcoming elections will test Ruto’s strategic reach across regions and his ability to navigate evolving alliances.

The period leading to 2026 promises intense political maneuvering, with close attention on how the President positions himself to retain support amid changing regional and party dynamics.
