President William Ruto has promised that residents of Turkana will finally see direct benefits from the county’s oil resources.
Speaking in Lodwar, he announced a new National Petroleum Policy aimed at ensuring local communities profit from the region’s oil wealth.
“This policy will guarantee that the people of Turkana benefit directly from their oil resources,” Ruto told residents.
The new framework replaces the outdated 2004 policy and aligns fully with the Constitution.
Ruto said the policy will not only strengthen governance but also attract more investment, enhance energy security, and promote value addition.
Expanding LPG usage and creating local employment were highlighted as key priorities.
The President emphasized that Turkana County would not be left behind as the government advances its national transformation agenda.
He noted that better revenue management under the new policy will ensure that oil exploration translates into tangible gains for the people.
The new policy is expected to open up more business opportunities, jobs, and social development projects for Turkana residents.
Ruto’s remarks come as part of a wider push by the government to turn Kenya’s natural resource wealth into real economic growth and development for its citizens, in line with the Vision 2030 blueprint.
