Gladys Wanga Under Fire for Reportedly Misleading Luo Community on Political Gains

Political analyst Odoyo Owidi has taken aim at Kakamega Senator Gladys Wanga over her approach to Luo representation in the next government.

Speaking on X, Owidi said Wanga is misleading Luo voters by focusing on parliamentary seats ODM will win while ignoring the number of votes President William Ruto might get.

“Re-election depends on votes, not ODM MPs,” Owidi said, highlighting that Ruto previously gave the mountain eight cabinet slots even when the region did not have its own political party.

Owidi suggested Wanga may be planning a post-election coalition rather than offering pre-election support to Ruto.

He noted that historically, it has been easy to win parliamentary seats in Luoland as opposition-leaning candidates aligned with the government.

The analyst added that Wanga and ODM’s James Orengo could be following the same script, but Wanga may still need government backing before making her move.

He warned that Luo voters have been “kept in continuous slumber” by leaders focusing on party representation over presidential outcomes.

Invoking a quote from French revolutionary Maximilien Robespierre, Owidi said: “The secret of freedom lies in educating people, whereas the secret of tyranny is in keeping them ignorant.”
