Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga on Friday addressed rising tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), urging members to stay united as debates continue over the party’s next steps.
Posting on her social media, Ruth Odinga said: “ODM is a strong party and we must remain so. All negotiations so far have been done with our strength and unity. We cannot sell our party! ODM, a party of national unity.”
Party insiders describe the disagreement as one of the most significant since Raila Odinga’s death in March, which left the party without its longstanding leader.
Ruth Odinga’s statement signals a call for collective decision-making.
Sources within the party say some members are pushing for alliances with the government to advance national priorities, while others warn that such moves could dilute ODM’s opposition identity.
The Kisumu women representative emphasized that ODM’s strength lies in its unity, urging members to prioritise the party’s principles over individual interests.
Her remarks are seen as a reminder to all leaders that decisions affecting the party should be made collectively, reflecting its values and long-term vision.
