Questions have emerged over the circumstances surrounding the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo after Mumias East MP Peter Salasya publicly disputed the official account of the fatal road crash.

The debate comes as investigators continue to piece together events leading to the early morning collision along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has stated that the crash occurred at about 2:19 a.m. on December 13, 2025, near the Karai area.

According to investigators, Jirongo’s Mercedes-Benz collided with a Climax Company Ltd passenger bus during the early hours of the morning.

As part of its inquiry, the DCI released details drawn from CCTV footage tracking Jirongo’s movements shortly before the accident.

Investigators said the footage shows Jirongo driving into a petrol station, leaving without refuelling, and rejoining the highway moments before the collision.

The bus driver, identified as Tyrus Kamau Githinji, was questioned and later released on cash bail pending the outcome of investigations.

However, Salasya has openly challenged the findings presented so far.

In a post shared on his X account, the Mumias East MP circulated images of the wreckage and argued that the damage visible on both vehicles did not correspond with what he described as a genuine head-on collision.

Salasya claimed that the passenger bus appeared to have sustained limited damage, which he said raised doubts about the severity and nature of the impact.

He further questioned the absence of certain indicators he associated with major crashes, arguing that the physical evidence did not support the official explanation.

"The script writer failed terribly .Hapa ni nyundo ilifanya kazi kwa hii gari .I expect to see the burst and complete tear of both tires of the bus and the Mercedes but I don't see this .This analytics even a blind person can see this was a cover up .We should now start asking why?" He wrote on X.

The MP went on to allege that the incident may not have been a routine traffic accident and called on authorities to provide clearer answers.

He urged the public to scrutinise the information released so far and seek further clarification from investigators.
