Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has raised concerns over the handling of information following the fatal road crash that killed former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, urging police to take full control of the investigation and public communication on the incident.
The lawmaker said it was inappropriate for the driver of the Climax Coaches bus involved in the collision to publicly narrate events before authorities released an official account.
The crash occurred at Karai along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway, a busy stretch that has previously recorded fatal accidents.
“A proper independent investigation must be carried around this Karai accident,” Amisi said in a public statement. “It is wrong for the driver of Climax bus to come out first to speak before the police conduct and officially communicates on the incident.”
The Climax bus driver had earlier addressed the press, claiming Jirongo’s vehicle entered the highway from a petrol station without giving way, leaving him with limited options to avoid the collision.
He said he chose to brake rather than swerve to protect passengers aboard the bus. Police have not yet issued a detailed public report confirming the sequence of events.
Amisi’s remarks place renewed focus on the role of traffic police and investigators in fatal crashes, particularly those involving high-profile figures.
In Kenya, police are mandated to conduct scene analysis, vehicle inspection, and witness interviews before releasing findings to the public.
Beyond the call for investigations, the Saboti MP also joined leaders across the political divide in mourning Jirongo, a long-serving politician and businessman known for his outspoken views.

In a personal message, Amisi described the former MP as a principled leader who challenged authority when necessary.
“I was going to type happy birthday to me; then I woke up to sad news of the loss of Hon. Cyrus Jirongo through a terrible road accident,” Amisi said.
He added that Jirongo was “a very good man by heart” and “an astute long-time politician who told the government the uncomfortable truth.”
As a mark of respect, Amisi said he cancelled any birthday celebrations planned for the day, citing Jirongo’s generosity and impact on public life.
He concluded by offering condolences to the bereaved family and calling for patience as authorities carry out investigations
