Martha Karua Mourns Longtime Ally Cyrus Jirongo

The leader of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), Martha Karua, has expressed shock and grief over the death of veteran politician Cyrus Jirongo, who died in a road traffic accident.

In a statement released on Friday, Karua described Jirongo, popularly known as CJ, as both a friend and political ally. 

“I have learnt with shock and sadness that passing on of my friend and brother Hon Cyrus Jirongo AKA CJ following a road traffic accident. My prayers and condolences to his family and friends,” she said.

Karua highlighted her long-standing relationship with Jirongo, noting over three decades of collaboration across Kenya’s political landscape. 

“I have known Hon Jirongo for over three decades, during which time we have collaborated in many political seasons,” she added.

The PLP leader’s statement underlines the respect Jirongo commanded among his peers despite his often controversial political career.

Karua described him as a dedicated figure in Kenyan politics and called on the nation to remember his contributions.

Jirongo’s sudden death has drawn condolences from across the political spectrum, with leaders noting his involvement in multiple electoral cycles and his efforts to engage youth in governance. 

His passing marks the end of a notable chapter in Kenya’s political scene, leaving many to reflect on his role as both a politician and public figure.

Karua concluded her message with a prayer for his soul, saying, “May he rest in peace,” offering a personal and solemn farewell to a colleague she considered a brother.
