It was a race against time and death in Kasarani. A young girl, gasping for every breath on oxygen, faced certain doom unless Sh1.5 million could be raised for urgent heart surgery in India.

Her mother, tears streaming, ran from door to door and finally turned to Nairobi CEC Geoffrey Mosiria.

“I have no one else… you are my last hope!” she cried, pleading for help.

Mosiria, accompanied by his assistant who was himself broke, didn’t have cash in hand. But he had a plan—and faith.

Within two weeks, he mobilized Sh750,000. Friends of the family, moved by the story, scraped together the remaining Sh750,000.

“The child needed to go to India immediately,” Mosiria told the press. “There was no time to waste. Every life matters.”

Thanks to the whirlwind fundraising, the girl boarded a plane and underwent heart surgery abroad.

Today, she is breathing freely, no longer dependent on oxygen, and her family is celebrating what Mosiria calls “a miracle orchestrated by God.”

Neighbors in Kasarani say they watched the drama unfold in disbelief.

“We never imagined anyone could pull together that kind of money so fast,” said one resident, shaking his head.

Mosiria visited the girl at home yesterday, witnessing her recovery firsthand.

“Seeing her laugh and play again… it’s priceless,” he said. “This story shows what communities can achieve when they come together.”

The tale has stirred discussions across Nairobi about the gaps in local healthcare and the lengths families must go to save their children.

Yet, for the mother, the focus is simple: her daughter lives, and nothing else matters.
