President William Ruto has disclosed that Britain’s King Charles III sent a condolence message following the death of Prime Minister Raila Odinga two months ago.

In a statement posted on X, Ruto said the King expressed his sense of loss and extended condolences to Odinga’s family and the people of Kenya.

According to the President, King Charles remembered Odinga as a steadfast leader who believed in democratic consensus, open-minded dialogue, and standing up for ordinary citizens.

The message was formally delivered at State House, Nairobi, by UK Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Ed Barnett.

The meeting also focused on the growing relationship between Kenya and the United Kingdom.

Ruto said Kenya–UK ties have significantly improved since the two countries signed a strategic partnership last July.

He noted that trade between the two nations has grown sharply, increasing from £1.3 billion (about Sh224 billion) to £2 billion (roughly Sh345 billion).

The President further revealed that the UK has thrown its weight behind Kenya’s proposed National Infrastructure Fund. Barnett said Britain is ready to send experts to help Kenya set up the fund.

Ruto said the fund will be key in driving major infrastructure projects across the country. He singled out the Nairobi Railway City project, describing it as a flagship Kenya–UK programme.

Once completed, the project is expected to turn Nairobi into a modern, green, and vibrant transport hub, strengthening the capital’s position as a regional gateway.
