Kenya’s Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has underscored the importance of strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with Belarus, describing the relationship as beneficial for both nations.
Kingi made the remarks during an official visit to Minsk, leading a Kenyan delegation to engage with Belarusian officials on trade and parliamentary cooperation.
In a statement shared on X, Kingi highlighted that the bilateral relationship supports Kenya’s economic agenda while creating avenues to advance strategic national interests.
He said the engagements not only enhance trade but also bolster Kenya’s global diplomatic profile.
During the visit, Kingi participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at Minsk’s Victory Monument, a memorial erected in 1954 to honor Soviet Army soldiers and Belarusian partisans who died in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945.
The ceremony, Kingi noted, symbolizes international solidarity and respect for historical sacrifices.
The Speaker emphasized that Kenya and Belarus enjoy a history of cordial relations, with partnerships that extend beyond commerce to include shared parliamentary initiatives.
Kingi’s delegation engaged with Belarusian counterparts to explore areas for expanding collaboration, including technology, agriculture, and regional trade linkages.
Kenya has in recent years sought to diversify its diplomatic relationships beyond traditional partners, a move that aligns with efforts to increase foreign investment and strategic cooperation.
Kingi said the support and warm reception from Belarusian authorities demonstrate the potential for deeper bilateral engagement.
Parliamentary backing for these efforts, Kingi added, is critical to ensuring continuity and alignment with Kenya’s national development priorities.
He reiterated that such partnerships strengthen Kenya’s leverage in international negotiations while providing practical benefits for citizens through trade, investment, and knowledge exchange.
The visit comes amid a broader push by Kenya’s legislative leadership to position the country as an active participant in global diplomacy, building relationships that can complement domestic policy objectives.
Kingi is expected to continue discussions with Belarusian parliamentary leaders to formalize agreements that could support Kenya’s economic and strategic goals
