Her Majesty Queen Mary of Denmark touched down in Nairobi on Tuesday evening for a three-day official visit to Kenya.

She was received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, marking the start of a state visit aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation.

During her stay, Queen Mary will engage with projects focusing on environmental sustainability, including conservation programs along the Kenyan Coast that protect endangered species.

In Nairobi, she will also observe waste management and circular economy initiatives designed to improve urban environmental resilience.

The visit coincides with the ongoing United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 7) at the UN Office in Nairobi.

According to a statement from the State Department of Foreign Affairs, the Queen’s participation will highlight joint efforts on renewable energy, climate action, and sustainable development, reflecting shared priorities between Kenya and Denmark.

Kenya and Denmark have a history of collaboration in environmental conservation and green development.

Past partnerships have included renewable energy projects and community-based conservation programs, particularly in coastal and rural regions. This visit is expected to explore further opportunities to strengthen these efforts and promote people-centered development initiatives.

Officials note that Queen Mary will also meet with local communities involved in sustainability and innovation projects.

These interactions aim to demonstrate practical approaches to tackling environmental challenges while fostering partnerships that benefit both nations.

The state visit offers Kenya a platform to showcase its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable urban planning.

It also reinforces diplomatic ties with Denmark, opening avenues for knowledge exchange and collaborative solutions in areas such as climate resilience and circular economy models.

Queen Mary’s itinerary runs through Thursday and includes participation at UNEA 7, field visits to conservation and waste management programs, and engagements that highlight innovative environmental practices.

The State Department of Foreign Affairs described her arrival as a gesture of goodwill and a step toward advancing long-term strategic cooperation between the two countries.
