Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has accused the government of prioritizing lavish State House spending over ordinary Kenyans, as 18 state corporations are sold at what he calls “fire-sale” prices.
Speaking to worshippers in Githunguri, Kalonzo said while State House spends Sh. 50 million every day, crucial public services such as hospitals continue to face shortages.
“Millions are spent at State House daily, yet families sleep under trees and hospitals lack medicine,” he said, citing figures from the Controller of Budget.
The Wiper leader also flagged ongoing land conflicts in Bomet, Narok, and Ang’ata Barrikoi, pointing to displacement and deaths.
Over 1,800 people were forced from their homes in Ang’ata Barrikoi in just three days. Earlier land protests led to five deaths in April and four in December, according to Kalonzo.
He described the sale of Sh. 271 billion in state assets for Sh. 500 million as deeply undervaluing national property.
Kalonzo praised the Auditor General and Controller of Budget for maintaining oversight, saying their actions are vital to protecting Kenya’s resources.
Kalonzo criticized the government’s approach to conflict, saying it relies on force where dialogue is needed.
“The United Opposition will resist any attempt to mortgage Kenya’s future through the back door,” he warned.
The remarks highlight rising concern over government spending and asset management, particularly as land disputes and undervaluation of state property remain unresolved.
Kalonzo urged Kenyans to stay alert and demand accountability from leaders.
