Former ODM executive director Wafula Buke has publicly challenged President William Ruto’s administration to address unanswered questions surrounding the death of businessman and former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, accusing the government of silence and moral failure.

In a strongly worded Facebook post, Buke questioned why the state has not issued a clear response on the circumstances of Jirongo’s death, despite public concern and statements by leaders calling for transparency.

He directly addressed President Ruto, describing him as the “commander of all investigations,” and warned that science and facts cannot be manipulated to conceal the truth.

Buke suggested that the government’s reluctance to respond raises serious suspicion, arguing that Kenyans who have been in public life long enough understand the implications of official silence.

He linked Jirongo’s death to what he described as a broader pattern of unresolved killings, including those associated with the Gen Z protests, saying the memories remain fresh and painful.

The former ODM official went further to claim that outspoken citizens risk intimidation or harm for demanding accountability.

He stated that he was prepared for any consequences that might come with asking difficult questions, framing his stance as a matter of honour and civic duty rather than fear.

Buke also issued a sharp warning to individuals he accused of defending the government for personal gain, saying such conduct ignores the right to life and justice.

At the same time, he praised and encouraged Kenyans, young and old, who continue to speak out against killings and human rights abuses, saying history would ultimately judge those in power.

His remarks come amid growing public debate over political accountability, the safety of critics, and the state’s handling of high-profile deaths.

While the government has not responded directly to Buke’s claims, his message has added pressure on authorities to provide clarity on Jirongo’s death and reaffirm commitment to justice and the rule of law.
