Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has called on President William Ruto to confront unresolved political disputes following his condolence message on the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo.
The interaction unfolded on X, with Kabando responding to Ruto’s tribute to the late politician.
In his message, President Ruto described Jirongo as a determined and entrepreneurial politician who refused to be constrained by life’s challenges.
He highlighted Jirongo’s generosity, boldness, and influence on Kenya’s political landscape, while extending condolences to his family and friends.
Kabando acknowledged the tribute as sincere but used the platform to remind the President of accusations that Jirongo had previously made against him.
These included allegations related to political dealings dating back to the Youth for KANU ’92 era and claims involving high-profile public incidents.
Kabando emphasised that the former MP had voiced these concerns openly and fearlessly throughout his political career.
The former legislator argued that while the President displayed commendable traits, including loyalty to allies, eloquence, and work ethic, leadership also requires accountability.
Kabando urged Ruto to address these unresolved issues rather than allow them to fade into public memory.

He described the tribute as an opportunity for reflection rather than a mere display of condolences.
Cyrus Jirongo’s political career was marked by both influence and controversy.
He played a significant role in Kenya’s multi-party politics in the 1990s and later became a vocal critic of several administrations, including leaders he had once supported.
His death has prompted tributes from across the political spectrum, illustrating the enduring impact of his work and the debates he sparked.
