The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has earned regional recognition for financial transparency and accountability, winning the Financial Reporting (FiRe) Award on Friday, 5th December 2025, at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi.
The accolade follows the Commission’s clean audit opinion from the Office of the Auditor General for the 2024/2025 financial year, reflecting strict adherence to public finance regulations.
CPA Joel Mukumu, EACC’s Director of Finance and Planning, received the award on behalf of the Commission in the Commissions and Independent Offices category under the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) Accrual framework.
The FiRe Awards, organised by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) in partnership with the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), and Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (PSASB), recognise excellence in financial management and reporting across East and Central Africa.
The event, themed “Fostering Compliance to International Standards to Enhance Transparency, Comparability & Accountability,” brought together regulators, finance professionals, and representatives from public and private institutions.
Speakers emphasised that adherence to rigorous financial standards strengthens public trust in institutions, a critical issue in Kenya’s ongoing fight against corruption and mismanagement of state resources.
Kenya’s anti-corruption framework, shaped by successive governments and legislative reforms, has sought to enhance accountability in public service delivery.
The EACC’s award highlights its role as a model of governance for other independent commissions and public offices, demonstrating that disciplined financial management can reinforce institutional credibility.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to professional standards and effective management of public resources.
According to EACC, sustained compliance with audit requirements has been central to its positive performance, ensuring transparency in operations and fostering confidence among stakeholders.
The recognition positions the Commission as a leading example of integrity in Kenya’s public sector.
