Fresh details have emerged regarding the death of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo after his family disclosed findings from private investigators hired to independently establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal road accident.
Speaking on Monday during Jirongo’s funeral service, close friend and former Senator George Khaniri revealed that the family commissioned private investigators amid lingering questions over the official account of the crash.
He said the move was informed by the need for clarity, transparency, and closure for the family.
According to Khaniri, the private investigators reviewed CCTV footage from locations along the route Jirongo was travelling before the accident.
Their preliminary findings, he said, challenge earlier reports that the former legislator was alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
“Private investigators have reviewed CCTV footage showing two people seated in the front of the vehicle, although their faces are not clearly visible,” Khaniri told mourners.
He questioned why official reports initially indicated that Jirongo was alone, despite the footage suggesting otherwise.
The disclosure has intensified public debate around the tragic accident, with some Kenyans calling for a more detailed explanation from authorities.

Jirongo’s associates urged the police to fast-track investigations and release comprehensive findings to address the emerging inconsistencies.
Police have, however, maintained that investigations into the crash are still ongoing.
Jirongo’s death sparked mixed reactions nationwide, reflecting his long and influential career in Kenyan politics and business.
As the family awaits official conclusions, the claims emerging from the private investigation are likely to place increased pressure on law enforcement to provide a clear and conclusive account of what transpired on the day of the accident.
