Nairobi County CEC Geoffrey Mosiria has broken his silence following the tragic death of a young woman during chaos at Nyayo Stadium, where thousands had gathered for the Gor Mahia versus Nairobi United match and the Asaka concert.

The young woman reportedly lost her life in a stampede as crowds pushed to access the venue.

The incident has sparked widespread shock and renewed concerns over safety at major entertainment and sporting events in the country.

In an emotional statement shared on X, Mosiria described the incident as “heartbreaking” and said it was painful that a life full of promise had been lost while seeking entertainment.

He conveyed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, noting that the tragedy was avoidable.

“This forces us, as a country, to pause and ask hard but necessary questions,” Mosiria said, pointing to a pattern of chaos, poor planning, and weak crowd control during events involving international artistes.

The Nairobi CEC placed responsibility on event organizers, insisting that safety planning must be mandatory and not treated as an afterthought.

He said invited artistes should also not be detached from responsibility when events held in their name result in loss of life.

Mosiria further called on government authorities to enforce stricter regulation of major public events.

He suggested that large concerts be held only in venues with adequate space and safety infrastructure, such as Kasarani Stadium, to prevent overcrowding.

He also appealed to the national government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, to consider organizing well-planned, government-supported entertainment events for young people.

According to Mosiria, properly managed concerts could help reduce desperation and unsafe crowd surges.

“We must stop learning lessons through death. One life lost is one too many,” he said.

The incident has intensified public debate on stadium safety, crowd management, and accountability, as Kenyans mourn another life lost during a public event.
