United Democratic Alliance (UDA) consolidated its presence in key counties and constituencies following Thursday’s by-elections, with Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei highlighting the party’s disciplined campaign and voter support as key factors behind its success.
In a statement on X, Cherargei congratulated winning candidates, noting that their victories reflected commitment, hard work, and persistence throughout the campaigns.
He urged them to prioritise service to constituents, stressing the importance of dedication for “a better society.”
The by-elections, which filled several parliamentary and ward vacancies across the country, saw UDA secure multiple seats, reinforcing its political strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Cherargei attributed the party’s performance to leadership under President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, describing their guidance as central to voter confidence.
“The biggest winners in these by-elections are President Ruto, Deputy President Kindiki, and allied partners,” Cherargei wrote, adding that the results demonstrate public trust in UDA’s agenda and governance approach.
He contrasted this with opposition parties, which he described as fragmented, listing senior leaders he said failed to present a unified front during the polls.
The 2025 by-elections were closely watched as an indicator of shifting political dynamics, particularly in counties with historically competitive races.
For instance, in Mbeere North Constituency, official results from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) showed UDA candidate Leonard Wamuthende winning the parliamentary seat with 15,802 votes, narrowly surpassing his closest rival, who received 15,308 votes.
These closely contested results highlight how small margins continue to shape Kenya’s electoral landscape.
Cherargei’s statement emphasizes that the by-election outcomes not only secure immediate wins for UDA but also provide insight into broader national trends as parties prepare for 2027.
With the IEBC confirming the results, the newly elected representatives are expected to take office soon, adding fresh momentum to UDA’s political strategy.
