The coastal constituency of Magarini now has a new Member of Parliament after yesterday’s by‑election, with Harry Garama Kombe of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) emerging victorious.

The result has drawn public commendation from Amason Kingi, Speaker of the Senate, who stated the vote as a reaffirmation of public trust in democratic institutions.

In a statement, Kingi congratulated Kombe and thanked Magarini voters for entrusting him with the mandate to complete the remaining term for the constituency.

He highlighted the election as an example of peaceful civic engagement that demonstrates the resilience of democratic governance.

According to Kingi, the process—as administered by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)—was “transparent and credible,” enabling constituents to freely express their will.

The by‑election in Magarini, located in Kilifi County along Kenya’s coast, comes at a time when coastal representation carries heightened importance amid ongoing debates around regional development and equitable resource allocation.

With Kombe’s entry into Parliament, ODM strengthens its presence in a region where party structures remain influential and where past electoral outcomes have often been closely contested.

Kingi also took the opportunity to appeal for calm and unity across political divides. He urged all parties—winners and losers alike—to “embrace each other” and move beyond the tensions of electoral rivalry for the betterment of the nation.

This call reflects a broader push within Kenyan political circles for post‑election cohesion, especially following heated campaigns.

While IEBC has confirmed that polling and vote tabulation proceeded without major reported disruptions, final official tallies have not yet been published publicly.

Kombe is expected to take his oath and assume parliamentary duties for Magarini in the coming days, giving constituents representation until the next general election.
