Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has challenged the government to account for the killings of 42 women whose mutilated bodies were discovered at the Kware dumpsite in Embakasi, Nairobi, last year.

Her statement came amid renewed international scrutiny following a United Nations report accusing Kenya of ignoring inquiries into abductions and enforced disappearances.

In a post on X, Wamuchomba said she was dissatisfied with the government’s response to her earlier parliamentary question about the July 2024 killings.

She accused state officials of blocking efforts to uncover the truth, describing the inaction as an injustice to victims and their families.

“It’s about time. Justice delayed is denied,” she wrote. “As an elected woman leader and a women’s rights champion, I demand to know who killed and dumped over 42 mutilated bodies of women in Kware.” Wamuchomba added that her push for answers was dismissed by “gatekeepers of the executive and oppressors.”

Her remarks came after the Daily Nation reported that the Kenyan government had failed to respond to two letters from Ms. Mary Lawlor, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders.

Lawlor had expressed concern about police killings, enforced disappearances, and persecution of government critics following the 2024 protests.

According to the report, Kenya’s silence may lead to the case being escalated to the UN Human Rights Council, heightening pressure on Nairobi to address allegations of state-linked abuses.

The development has drawn attention to Kenya’s human rights record and how authorities handle cases involving activists and victims of violence.

Wamuchomba’s renewed call for justice has sparked reactions online, with Kenyans demanding accountability and proper investigations into the Embakasi killings.

Her appeal adds to growing public and international pressure for answers over what rights groups describe as a disturbing pattern of extrajudicial killings and disappearances in the country.
