“Tell Us Why You Ousted Gachagua,” Wambugu Challenges Ichung’wah Ahead of TV Show

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has called on National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah to give a full and honest explanation about the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In a post shared on X on Sunday, hours before Ichung’wah’s scheduled interview on Inooro TV, Wambugu said Kenyans deserve to understand why leaders from the Mount Kenya region turned against one of their own.

He said the move to impeach Gachagua still puzzles many who once viewed him as the region’s most influential political figure.

“Ichung’wah should tell us why they impeached Gachagua candidly,” Wambugu wrote.

“He was their friend, he campaigned with and for them, he suffered with them, and he became their boss. Then they just threw him out, even his own county-mates.”

The former legislator questioned what could have prompted such a sharp betrayal, noting that Gachagua’s ouster was not just a political event but a personal rejection by those he once supported.

He added that Ichung’wah’s public explanation would help Kenyans better understand the rift that divided the region’s political leadership.

“Now that the emotions have come down, if he tells us that, we will be able to figure Gachagua out,” he stated.

Wambugu’s comments come as political attention turns to the aftermath of last year’s impeachment, which reshaped Mount Kenya politics and weakened Gachagua’s influence in the national scene.

Ichung’wah, who served alongside Gachagua in the ruling coalition, is among the leaders widely viewed as having played a central role in the process.

His Sunday night interview on Inooro TV is expected to attract keen interest, with Wambugu’s remarks heightening expectations that the Majority Leader may finally address the events that led to the dramatic downfall of the former deputy president.
