National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has joined Kenyans and the international community in mourning the deaths of eleven people who perished in a plane crash involving a Mombasa Air Safari aircraft on Tuesday.
The plane, which was headed to the Maasai Mara, went down shortly after takeoff, killing everyone on board.
In a statement posted on X, Wetang’ula said the incident had turned what was meant to be an exciting experience into a tragedy that shocked the nation.
“What was meant to be a thrilling experience showcasing the breathtaking beauty and splendour of the Maasai Mara turned into a heartbreaking tragedy,” he said.
According to reports, those killed included eight Hungarian nationals, two Germans, and a Kenyan pilot who was flying the aircraft.
Officials from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority have confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash.
Wetang’ula extended his condolences to the affected families and expressed solidarity with the nations that lost their citizens.
“We stand in mourning and solidarity with the nations, friends and families affected by this loss. May God grant strength and comfort to the bereaved families during this difficult time,” he wrote.
