Roselyn Akombe Cautions Kenyans Against ‘Stage-Managed’ Political Wars Ahead of 2027

Former IEBC commissioner Dr. Roselyn Akombe has urged Kenyans to stay alert as politicians begin what she calls a cycle of “stage-managed rivalries” meant to sway public emotions ahead of the 2027 general election.

Through a statement posted on X, Akombe warned that the political class often fabricates conflicts to keep citizens distracted from real issues such as corruption, governance failures, and economic distress.

“Let’s not forget that the political class always fabricate imaginary conflicts with each other to keep the narrative about themselves and not about ‘outsiders’. Citizens then get preoccupied with the intra-political class ‘fights’, which are not real, and they sadly pick sides,” she wrote.

Akombe said many of these public feuds are designed to create sympathy for certain politicians who later reconcile and share power after elections, leaving voters disillusioned.

“Citizens then vote for the ‘poor aggrieved politician’ who later on invites their ‘enemy’ to the table and they laugh at the voters as they eat and dine. Same script imeanza,” she added.

Her warning comes as political activity intensifies across the country, with renewed meetings and partnerships among leaders from rival camps suggesting fresh realignments.

Akombe urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and reject emotional manipulation through political theatre, calling instead for a renewed focus on issue-based politics that prioritizes citizens’ welfare over elite interests.

Her message adds to a growing chorus of voices urging voters to look beyond personalities and demand real accountability from leaders as the road to 2027 begins to take shape.
