Robert Alai Tells Babu Owino to Focus on Legislation, Not Maths Lessons to KCSE Candidates

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has criticized Embakasi East MP Babu Owino for teaching national examination candidates online, arguing that the legislator should prioritize his parliamentary duties instead.

Through a statement shared on Facebook, Alai questioned the rationale behind Babu’s live mathematics sessions, saying that elected leaders should spend their time addressing governance and policy issues.

He described the practice as misplaced and an example of misplaced priorities in leadership.

“I am on the list of the best Kenyan mathematicians. I scored an A- in a village school called Lela. If I was at Alliance, I would have taught the teacher,” Alai wrote.

He added that he holds a degree in Computer Science from USIU and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Data Analytics.

According to Alai, leadership is about legislation, representation, and oversight, not offering revision lessons.

“My level of Mathematics is beyond the level of Babu Owino and even his 20 associates,” he stated, adding that public excitement over such acts reflects ignorance in Nairobi’s politics.

“Cheering an MP for live-streaming Maths lessons is as stupid as electing Sakaja because he has dimples,” Alai said, in a sharp jab aimed at both Babu Owino and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

Babu Owino has become known for livestreaming mathematics and chemistry lessons for KCSE candidates every exam season.

His initiative, which started during the COVID-19 lockdown, has attracted thousands of viewers and widespread praise from students and parents.
