Police in Nairobi have arrested a suspected mobile phone thief believed to be behind a string of snatching incidents in the Dagoretti area.
According to a statement from the National Police Service (NPS), the suspect was arrested on Saturday by officers from Muthangari Police Station following a tip-off from members of the public.
The officers, who were on foot patrol, acted swiftly after receiving intelligence about a man suspected of stealing mobile phones around Soko Mjinga.
The police tracked the suspect to his house, where a search led to the recovery of three mobile phones—an iPhone, an HDM, and a G73.
The gadgets were found wrapped in foil paper, a method often used by criminals to block tracking signals.
“The suspect was escorted to the station and placed in custody pending processing and arraignment in court,” the NPS said in its statement.
The arrest comes amid rising reports of phone snatching and street robberies across several parts of Nairobi, especially in busy commuter zones.
Police have intensified patrols and surveillance operations targeting such criminal networks.
The National Police Service assured the public of continued efforts to combat street crime and urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities.
“The NPS remains steadfast in its commitment to serving and protecting the public,” the statement added.
The recovered phones have been secured as exhibits, while investigations continue to establish whether the suspect is linked to other similar incidents in Dagoretti and nearby areas.
