Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has defended Kibra MP Peter Ochieng Orero after a video recorded by CNN journalist Larry Madowo showed the legislator’s vehicle allegedly flouting traffic rules in Nairobi, a clip that has since trended on social media.
The footage, widely shared on X and other platforms, prompted public debate about the conduct of elected officials on public roads.
The incident has kept Orero in the headlines for several days, with commentators and members of the public weighing in on accountability and the pressures faced by politicians.
In a post on X, Alai urged Kenyans to consider the demands of political life before judging the MP. He wrote in full:
"You people don’t know the crazy life of a politician moving between constituency matters to the assembly and probably still supposed to even attend some committees elsewhere.
From your hate of politicians, you attack Mwalimu Otero while not even trying to understand what he was going through.
You really think representation and oversight is an easy matter? You people need to carefully understand and not fall for the ignorant judgement of politician by those desperate for attention.
I have come to understand some of these things because I live it everyday."
Alai’s statement frames the episode as symptomatic of wider public impatience with political office-holders, while stressing the logistical strains of juggling constituency work, parliamentary sittings and committee duties.
He described his perspective as rooted in personal experience of life in public service.
