Kalonzo Meets 700 Student Leaders From Across The Country

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Monday hosted more than 700 student leaders drawn from 224 institutions across the country, in a meeting that placed the youth at the center of Kenya’s political discourse.

The event, attended by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and lawmakers allied to the Wiper Democratic Movement, focused on education, accountability, and the role of young people in shaping the country’s future.

Kalonzo reiterated his long-standing call for free education, reminding the gathering that his push for the policy dates back to his 2007 presidential bid.

He credited the late President Mwai Kibaki’s administration for working with him to make free education a reality but warned that current government failures were eroding those gains.

“Due to systematic failures from this regime, our Gen Z said enough is enough. June 25, 2024, is the day Kenya changed forever,” Kalonzo said, in reference to the protests that swept the country earlier this year.

The Wiper leader faulted the government for prioritizing “bribery in broad daylight” while failing to provide adequate capitation for students.

He accused State House of operating like “a crime scene” and urged the youth to continue demanding accountability, jobs, and a fair business environment.

Kalonzo revealed that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had interacted with some of the student leaders during the forum.

He also shared his experience working with the late Nobel laureate Wangari Maathai, whom he once served alongside as vice president.

At the meeting, it was agreed that Wiper Party of the Future (WPF) chapters will be launched in all universities to strengthen student participation in national debates.

Kalonzo said the move would give learners “a strong and united voice in shaping the future of Kenya.”
