Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has revealed that he met former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during a gathering of Kenyans living in the United States, where they discussed Kenya’s future and the challenges facing citizens.
Salasya said the meeting took place at Gachagua and his wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi’s rural home in Dallas, Texas, where they hosted Kenyans drawn from different states across the US.
In a statement, the lawmaker described the engagement as an opportunity to exchange ideas on ways of contributing to Kenya’s development and creating opportunities for citizens.
“This evening, I had the privilege of spending time with His Excellency Rigathi Gachagua and Rev Pastor Dorcas Rigathi at their rural home in Dallas, Texas, where they hosted Kenyans from different states across the United States,” Salasya said.
According to the MP, the discussions focused on issues affecting Kenyans and possible approaches to transforming the country’s economy and improving the lives of citizens.
Salasya said he was particularly encouraged by Gachagua’s stated commitment to addressing challenges in areas such as employment, healthcare, education and economic growth.
The meeting brought together Kenyans living abroad, providing a platform for participants to share their views on the country’s development priorities and discuss how the diaspora can contribute to Kenya’s progress.
Salasya said the conversations also provided an opportunity for reflection on Kenya’s future and the role that political leaders and citizens can play in addressing national challenges.
He described the engagement as “memorable and insightful,” adding that he appreciated the opportunity to participate in discussions centred on building what he termed a stronger and more prosperous Kenya.
The meeting comes as Gachagua continues his engagements with Kenyans living abroad following his departure from the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The former deputy president has in recent months maintained a public presence and continued to comment on issues affecting the country.
Salasya, meanwhile, has increasingly positioned himself as a vocal political figure, frequently speaking on national development, economic opportunities and issues affecting young Kenyans.
