Siaya Governor James Orengo has joined political leaders and Kenyans in mourning Gloria Sekeiyan, the wife of Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, ahead of her burial in Malinya, Kakamega County.
In a message issued on Thursday, August 20, Orengo expressed his condolences to Khalwale, describing Gloria as his “beloved wife” and acknowledging the difficult period the senator and his family are going through.
“To my dear brother, Senator Dr. Boni Khalwale: As you lay your beloved wife, Gloria Sekeiyan, to rest in Malinya tomorrow, my heart goes out to you,” Orengo said.
Gloria died suddenly after reportedly suffering a heart attack. Her death has triggered an outpouring of condolence messages from political leaders and members of the public, with many reflecting on her role within the Khalwale family.
The late Gloria was the mother of eight of Khalwale’s children. She largely maintained a private life away from the political spotlight despite her husband’s long career in public service.
Her death comes at a difficult time for Khalwale, who is expected to lead family members and relatives in laying her to rest on Friday, August 21.
Orengo, in his condolence message, also recognised the demands facing Khalwale as he continues serving residents of Kakamega during the period of mourning.
“May God grant you strength and comfort during this painful time, and give you the peace to bear this loss while serving the people of Kakamega,” the Siaya governor said.
He concluded his message with a tribute to Gloria, saying, “Rest in power, Mama Gloria.”
The burial in Malinya is expected to bring together family members, friends, political leaders and residents who will gather to pay their final respects to Gloria.
Khalwale has received messages of condolence from leaders across the political divide following the sudden death of his wife.
Gloria’s passing has also brought renewed attention to the personal sacrifices made by families of public figures, who often navigate private loss while their relatives continue carrying out public responsibilities.
