Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has launched a scathing attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of spreading divisive rhetoric and orchestrating a political campaign aimed at undermining his work.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 6, Murkomen said he had been closely monitoring Gachagua’s recent public remarks, expressing concern over what he termed as dangerous and inflammatory messaging.
“I have been following with concern and shock Rigathi Gachagua's public pronouncements and talks in recent days,” Murkomen said.
The CS accused the former deputy president of engaging in sustained attacks characterised by “vitriol, misogyny, lies, ethnic jingoism and hate,” which he said were intended to sow division and incite unrest.
He further dismissed Gachagua’s perceived attempts to position himself as a regional political kingpin, arguing that such a role has no basis in law or tradition.
“A position that neither exists in the Constitution nor in our socio-cultural setups,” Murkomen stated.
Murkomen also alleged that Gachagua was using public forums to deflect attention from alleged covert activities, claiming the former deputy president was targeting him personally under the guise of criticising security operations.
“Addressing delegations to his rural home, he besmirches my name daily… while in the real sense, he is trying to divert my attention away from clandestine criminal activities,” he said.
The Interior CS further claimed that Gachagua had mobilised political allies, including individuals from the Rift Valley, to support what he described as a coordinated scheme against him.
He linked recent accusations raised in Parliament and public gatherings to this alleged network.
“It is no coincidence that Gachagua was amplifying the false accusations made against me by his co-conspirators,” Murkomen said.
Despite the escalating political exchange, Murkomen maintained that he remains focused on his duties, assuring the public of his commitment to national security and service delivery.
“I remain steadfast and unwavering in discharging my duties,” he said.
