Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has launched a strong attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after his criticism of the Africa Forward Summit held in Nairobi, defending President William Ruto’s handling of the high-profile diplomatic gathering that brought together more than 30 heads of state and government.

Gachagua had questioned the purpose of the summit and Kenya’s engagement with visiting leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

He described the event as misplaced priorities, arguing that the government should be focusing more on domestic challenges.

In her response, Wahome dismissed the criticism and accused Gachagua of acting out of frustration and political hostility toward the government.

“The Hon Rigathi Gachagua, former Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, your recent criticism of the Government propelled by disbelief that H.E Dr William Ruto, the President of the Republic of Kenya, was able to host over 30 Heads of States and Governments has exposed you badly,” Wahome said.

She defended the summit, saying it demonstrated Kenya’s growing influence in regional and global diplomacy under Ruto’s leadership.

Wahome added that such engagements were key to strengthening Kenya’s international standing and attracting investment.

Wahome also directed personal remarks at Gachagua, warning that his continued criticism of the President and international leaders was politically self-defeating.

“You are a walking time bomb. You will blow yourself and your team in an attempt to reach H.E Ruto. And make no mistake. That is an impossible mission,” she said.

She further took issue with Gachagua’s simultaneous criticism of Macron and Guterres, questioning his consistency and leadership direction.

“You criticize UN Secretary General and President Macron in one statement and then tell us you are taking us Kenyans somewhere. Apana!” she added.

Gachagua’s remarks came after the conclusion of the Africa Forward Summit, which focused on trade, infrastructure, climate financing and Africa’s role in global decision-making.

The summit also saw Kenya sign several cooperation agreements with international partners.
