Political momentum is shifting in Emurua Dikirr constituency ahead of the upcoming by-election, with campaign activity increasingly influenced by endorsements tied to the legacy of the late MP Johana Ng’eno.

Naiyanoi Ntutu, the widow of the late legislator, has been actively campaigning for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, urging residents to back the ruling party’s nominee.

She has maintained that her late husband remained firmly aligned to UDA and President William Ruto’s administration, calling on voters to continue with that political direction.

In her campaign messages, Naiyanoi has also cautioned against supporting candidates associated with Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

She accused the party’s leadership of insensitivity following the announcement of Ng’eno’s death, which she said was made before the family had been formally informed.

Her involvement has added weight to UDA’s campaign in a contest that has drawn national attention, especially after shifting alliances and the emergence of Bernard Ngeno as a key UDA-backed candidate.

The race, triggered by the death of Johana Ng’eno in a helicopter crash earlier this year, has attracted intense political interest from competing camps.

Political analyst Kipkalya Kones says the widow’s public role in the campaigns reflects a calculated effort by UDA to consolidate support in a constituency where emotional and community ties often influence voter decisions.

He notes that the endorsement carries both political and symbolic significance, especially in a region where loyalty to leaders can extend to their families after death.

According to him, such dynamics often shape voter perception in closely contested by-elections.

Kones further observes that the contest has evolved beyond a local electoral race into a broader political contest between rival camps seeking influence ahead of future national alignments.

He says the presence of competing endorsements has intensified the campaign atmosphere on the ground.

However, he cautions that while widow endorsements can strengthen political messaging, they can also deepen divisions if framed in a confrontational manner.

He adds that the final outcome will depend on how well parties balance emotional appeal with voter engagement on development issues.

Campaigns in Emurua Dikirr continue to intensify as candidates traverse villages and engage residents in rallies and meetings. Electoral officials have urged calm and adherence to campaign regulations as the race enters its final stretch.

With Naiyanoi Ntutu’s active participation and analysts closely watching voter sentiment, the by-election is shaping up as a key political test for competing parties in the region.
