Nairobi County has signaled a possible intervention in the long recovery journey of DJ Evolve, the entertainer who survived a near-fatal shooting in 2020 that left him with life-altering injuries.

County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, on Monday announced plans to visit DJ Evolve with the aim of exploring structured support to help him rebuild his life and career.

In a public statement, Mosiria said the county is considering interventions that go beyond medical assistance, focusing on long-term empowerment through digital opportunities.

“I would like to pay a visit to DJ Evolve to explore ways we can support him, especially following the unfortunate shooting incident that left him with disabilities,” Mosiria said.

“Our focus would be on empowering him to rebuild and thrive, particularly by leveraging opportunities in the digital space.”

Digital Comeback Strategy

Mosiria outlined a proposal to help the DJ transition into online entertainment, including the establishment of a virtual DJ platform.

The initiative, he said, would allow Evolve to reconnect with audiences and continue his passion despite mobility challenges.

The county is also exploring the creation of a DJ academy under his mentorship.

The plan is aimed at generating a sustainable income stream while nurturing emerging talent in Nairobi’s entertainment sector.

“We can support him in establishing an online DJ entertainment platform… In addition, we can help set up a DJ academy where he can train and mentor upcoming DJs,” Mosiria added.

Medical and Rehabilitation Support

Beyond digital initiatives, the county official acknowledged the need for continued medical care and rehabilitation.

He said efforts could include provision of assistive technology and equipment to improve Evolve’s independence and productivity.

The DJ, whose real name is Felix Orinda, was shot twice in the neck at a Nairobi nightclub in January 2020 in an incident involving Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

He survived but sustained severe injuries, leading to a prolonged hospital stay and ongoing recovery.

Recent updates indicate gradual improvement, with Evolve regaining his voice and making progress in mobility, though he still requires support.

Call for Public Assistance

Mosiria appealed to the public to help facilitate contact with the DJ, signaling urgency in rolling out the proposed support plan.

“If anyone has his contact or can help facilitate a connection, I would greatly appreciate your assistance,” he said.

The proposed intervention comes amid renewed public attention on DJ Evolve’s condition and raises broader questions about support systems for victims of violent incidents in Kenya.
