Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has launched a sharp attack on Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) deputy leader Cleophas Malala, accusing him of secretly mobilising local leaders in an alleged scheme aimed at weakening supporters of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the county.

In a public statement, Njeri claimed that Malala held a meeting on Wednesday night with a section of Members of County Assembly (MCAs) allied to Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.

According to the legislator, the meeting reportedly took place at Golden Palm Hotel in Kenol between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

Njeri alleged that the purpose of the gathering was to form a splinter group intended to challenge political figures she described as “foot soldiers” of Gachagua within Kirinyaga.

“I am aware that yesterday, between 8.00 p.m. and 10.00 p.m., you met a section of MCAs allied to Governor Anne Waiguru from Kirinyaga county at Golden Palm Kenol,” Njeri said in the statement.

“The agenda was to create a splinter group to fight H.E. Rigathi Gachagua’s foot soldiers in that county.”

She further accused Malala of allegedly giving the MCAs who attended the meeting KSh20,000 each, claiming the funds came from individuals seeking to disrupt what she described as the “agenda of the people and the united alternative government.”

The Kirinyaga Woman Representative said she was uncertain about Malala’s political motivations but warned that she would publicly challenge any attempt to undermine leaders aligned with Gachagua.

“I do not know who you work for, nor do I want to speculate,” she stated. “I also do not know what personal vendetta you have with leaders supporting H.E., but I want to say this publicly so that it is on record.”

Njeri also referenced previous private discussions she said she had held with Malala on the matter, suggesting the issue had been raised earlier but had not been resolved.

The legislator went further to criticise Malala’s conduct during his tenure as Secretary General of his former political party, accusing him of having a history of soliciting money in exchange for favours.

“You infamously had the bad habit, as SG in your former party, of soliciting money from everyone and anyone for favors,” she said.

In a dramatic closing remark, Njeri vowed to confront Malala politically if the alleged activities continue. “Bring it on. You shall face off with me where the rubber meets the road,” she said, adding a local proverb to underline her stance.
