Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has weighed in on the growing turmoil within Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the party’s Secretary-General.
Sifuna was dropped from the influential post after a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held last Wednesday, a decision that has triggered sharp divisions within the party.
A faction of ODM leaders — including Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Vihiga Senator Geoffrey Osotsi, and East African Legislative Assembly MP Winnie Odinga — has publicly condemned the move and declared support for Sifuna.
In a strongly worded social media post, Wamuchomba framed the dispute as a struggle for the soul of the party, warning against what she described as betrayal of its founding ideals.
“To every Kenyan tired of sellouts and empty promises, Baba built ODM as a movement for the people, not a tool for 2027 convenience,” she wrote.
The MP further claimed that a “Linda Mwananchi” faction within ODM — led by Sifuna and his allies — is defending the party’s legacy against internal plots and external interference.
She also referenced growing grassroots support for leaders she termed “principled fighters,” arguing that the movement reflects public demand for accountable opposition politics.
Wamuchomba urged unity among opposition figures, warning that fragmentation could weaken resistance against President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“Time to build something unbreakable: no more family deals, no surrender. Unite the real opposition or Ruto walks 2027,” she added.
The controversy surrounding Sifuna’s removal continues to expose deep fault lines within ODM, a party founded by veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga.
