Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has welcomed the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), describing it as a political liberation for Sifuna and a win for the Kenyan public.
The party’s National Executive Committee, meeting in Mombasa on Wednesday, resolved to relieve Sifuna of his duties with immediate effect. Deputy Secretary General Catherine Omanyo will act in his place until a substantive officeholder is elected.
In his reaction, Salasya congratulated Sifuna, saying the move freed him politically and opened opportunities for broader collaboration.
“Congratulations to Edwin W. Sifuna. Now you have salvaged yourself politically; you are now free. We can now fight for Kenyans together,” Salasya said.
The Mumias East legislator added that Sifuna’s removal benefits Kenyans generally, signaling a new phase of political engagement.
He also revealed plans to move to Nairobi to support Sifuna, declaring his readiness to join the movement actively.
“Removal of Sifuna is a win to Kenyans in general. I will now camp in Nairobi to campaign for you; I am now ready to join the movement,” he said.
Salasya further indicated that ODM can now operate with a broader political base.
His remarks suggest a shift toward cooperation and coalition-building, highlighting the changing dynamics within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development comes amid internal party adjustments and strategic realignments as ODM seeks to strengthen its position nationally.
While the party focuses on reorganizing its leadership, Salasya’s public support underscores a trend of cross-party engagement and the growing influence of individual leaders in shaping Kenya’s political alliances.
This move marks a pivotal moment for Sifuna, signaling both personal political freedom and potential collaboration with legislators like Salasya on broader national issues.
