Nightmares Followed My Promotion, and I Had to Seek Help

When Daniel Mwangi received his promotion letter, it marked the peak of a career built on patience, diligence, and quiet perseverance. 


After twelve years as a junior records officer in a government department in Nairobi, he had finally been elevated to senior administrative supervisor — a position that promised better pay, influence, and long-awaited respect from colleagues and family alike.


The celebration lasted only a few days.


Within a week of assuming his new office, Daniel began experiencing vivid nightmares. In the dreams, shadowy figures stood at the far corner of his office, whispering his name in voices he could not recognize. 


Each night, the figures drew closer. He would wake drenched in sweat, heart pounding, convinced someone had been standing beside his bed.


At first, he dismissed the episodes as stress.


But the disturbances spread into his waking life. Important files under his supervision began disappearing, only to reappear in locked cabinets he had personally checked. 


His computer froze whenever he attempted to process sensitive documents. Colleagues who had once congratulated him now spoke in hushed tones when he passed.


Within a month, Daniel’s health deteriorated. He suffered persistent headaches, unexplained fatigue, and sudden dizziness during meetings. 


His supervisor cautioned him about declining performance. Rumors began circulating that he had obtained the promotion through favoritism — or worse.


Medical examinations at a private hospital showed no physical illness. 


A counselor suggested anxiety linked to increased responsibility. Daniel tried sleeping pills and stress management techniques, but the nightmares intensified.


One evening, after collapsing at his desk, a longtime office messenger pulled him aside.


“You are not the first,” the elderly man whispered. “That chair has seen many fall. Success attracts eyes you cannot see.”


Reluctant yet desperate, Daniel reached out to Dr Bokko, a well-known traditional healer reputed for addressing spiritual afflictions linked to envy and unseen forces. 

After consulting him and undergoing the prescribed cleansing and protection rituals, Daniel says his condition improved almost immediately.


In the weeks that followed, the nightmares subsided. His sleep returned. Work stabilized. Missing files stopped disappearing, and his confidence slowly recovered.
