Nyali Member of Parliament Mohamed Ali has raised alarm over rising insecurity in the Coast region, warning that violent crime is increasingly threatening lives and businesses in Mombasa and Kilifi counties.

In a statement shared on social media, the MP said robbery with violence had become widespread, with armed gangs staging frequent attacks on shops, mini-marts and business premises.

He described the situation as “utterly appalling,” noting that criminals were terrorising civilians and traders, often leaving victims injured and traumatised.

Ali said the wave of attacks was undermining economic activity in the region, particularly for small-scale traders who depend on daily sales for survival.

He pointed to multiple reports of shopkeepers being forced to fight for their lives during night raids, calling the violence a direct assault on community stability and local commerce.

“The scenes we are witnessing are heart-wrenching,” Ali said, adding that continued insecurity was eroding public confidence and creating fear among residents.

He warned that without decisive action, criminal gangs could further entrench themselves in residential and commercial areas.

The Nyali MP called on the Inspector-General of Police to urgently heighten security operations along the Coast and deploy additional security personnel to restore order.

He argued that short-term crackdowns had failed to address the root of the problem and insisted on a sustained, permanent operation to dismantle criminal networks.

Ali stressed that residents of Mombasa and Kilifi deserved to live and conduct business in peace, without fear of violent attacks.

He urged security agencies to act swiftly and decisively, saying half-measures were no longer acceptable.

The renewed calls come amid growing public concern over crime in parts of the Coast, with residents and leaders increasingly demanding stronger policing, intelligence-led operations and long-term security reforms to curb armed robberies and gang activity.
