Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has held consultative talks with leaders from the county’s Somali community, emphasizing their vital role in shaping the coastal city’s economic strength and social fabric.
During the meeting at the county offices, Nassir engaged a delegation led by community chairman Abdo Bahaji, describing the Somali community as a key pillar of Mombasa’s commercial vibrancy.
He noted their longstanding tradition of enterprise, investment, and cross-regional trade, which continues to influence the county’s economic landscape.
The discussions centered on strengthening integration and enhancing collaboration between the community and county government programs.
Nassir said the county administration is keen on unlocking more opportunities for partnership in trade, investment, and community development to ensure inclusive growth.
He emphasized that collaboration with diverse communities is essential to sustaining Mombasa’s position as a regional business hub, while also promoting social cohesion and shared prosperity.
County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Tourism and Culture Mohamed Osman attended the meeting alongside County Public Service Board member Liban Hirsi and specially elected MCA Hamida Noor.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering an enabling environment for businesses and encouraging participation of all communities in development initiatives.
Mombasa’s Somali community has historically played a significant role in commerce, particularly in wholesale trade, logistics, and regional supply networks linking Kenya to neighboring markets.
