Dr. Andrew Githiria has shared a personal story of heartbreak that resurfaced following the recent social media buzz around a Russian national recording videos with Kenyan women.
The medical doctor recounted a past relationship that changed him deeply.
“That Russian story stirred something in me, a memory I don’t often revisit. Storytime!” Dr. Githiria began in a candid X post.
He revealed that in 2021, when he was 24, he was dating a 21-year-old woman, whom he referred to as Molly.
She travelled to the coast to attend her sister’s birthday and ended up extending her stay at Papillon Hotel in Diani after meeting a 43-year-old Polish man.
“She cancelled her return ticket and explored the coastline with someone she had just met. My calls went unanswered, texts delayed,” Dr. Githiria said, describing the sudden change in her behaviour.
Upon her return, he tried to restore normalcy with a dinner at Inca Restaurant in Social House.
“She was distant. Indifferent. She didn’t want to talk about the extra week, about Diani, about him,” he recounted.
Dr. Githiria later discovered a troubling trail: Emirates tickets to Dubai in her name, money transfers, and messages indicating a parallel life. Despite trips together to Jinja, Uganda, and even reaching out to her university best friend, Amanda, his efforts failed.
“She left with the Polish man — Europe, UAE, Asia. Her Instagram became a gallery of fine dining, infinity pools, jet skis, airport lounges. The man was never in the photos but his presence was obvious,” he explained.
In a twist of fate, Dr. Githiria recently discovered that Amanda, his ex’s former best friend, is now dating the same Polish man. “Now she’s the one travelling the world, living the big life. Where is my ex, Molly? I don’t know,” he said.
Dr. Githiria concluded his reflection with humility: “There’s no grand lesson here. No dramatic moral. Just life unfolding in ways we don’t expect.”
