Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral ties with South Sudan following high-level talks between Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei and South Sudan’s Presidential Envoy on Special Programmes, Adut Salva Kiir.

In a statement shared on social media, Sing’oei said the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in key sectors of mutual interest.

These include institutional capacity support, youth empowerment, education, infrastructure development, transport connectivity, and expanding trade and investment opportunities.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of leveraging opportunities presented by the East African Community integration framework to accelerate economic growth and cross-border collaboration between the two countries.

Both sides agreed to continue engagements during the second session of the Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC), which is expected to provide a structured platform for advancing bilateral programmes and evaluating progress on shared priorities.

The talks come at a critical time for South Sudan as it prepares for the conclusion of its political transition period.

The leaders acknowledged ongoing mediation and stabilization efforts led by the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, aimed at ensuring a peaceful transition culminating in credible elections scheduled for December 2026.

Kenya has long played a central diplomatic and economic role in South Sudan’s stability and development, serving as a key trading partner, transit corridor, and mediator in regional peace processes.

The renewed commitment signals Nairobi’s intention to reinforce its strategic partnership with Juba while supporting regional peace, economic integration, and institutional development across the Horn of Africa.
