A fresh political storm has erupted after Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale shared a letter on social media alleging that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was dismissed as a District Officer in Laikipia for allegedly stealing relief food.

In a strongly worded post, Duale suggested that past conduct should inform public trust. “As the saying goes, old habits die hard,” he wrote.

He argued that any public officer who misappropriated resources meant for vulnerable citizens forfeited the moral authority to lecture others on public service.

He further stated that such a person “should not be allowed anywhere near anything that belongs to the people again; including power.”

The letter, which has circulated widely online, purports to show that Gachagua was sacked from government service over alleged misappropriation of relief supplies.

However, city lawyer Wahome Thuku has dismissed the document as fabricated.

In a public statement, Thuku said he would defend Gachagua on the matter, insisting the letter is fake.

“This time I will defend Rigathi Gachagua because I am a fair, honest and truthful man,” he stated.

According to him, the letter was created in 2021 as part of political propaganda ahead of the 2022 General Election.

Thuku specifically accused a Mt Kenya-based blogger, Councilor Njohi, of designing and circulating the document alongside a controversial image at the time.

The Letter

He maintained that the letter has no official basis and was intended to influence political perceptions during the election period.

Councilor Njohi indirectly addressed the authenticity of the letter in Facebook remarks.

“Everything I speak or write is what must be said at that particular moment in time. No regrets. No apologies," he stated.

The exchange shows renewed tensions within Kenya’s political landscape, where historical allegations and social media claims continue to shape public debate.

As the controversy unfolds, attention is likely to shift to whether any formal records exist to substantiate the allegations or confirm Thuku’s assertion that the document is a political fabrication.
