Businessman Oketch Salah has come out strongly in response to claims by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga that his activities are not officially sponsored by the party.
Wanga, in a statement circulated on social media, stressed that any initiatives or engagements by Salah are carried out strictly in his personal capacity and do not represent ODM.
She urged grassroots leaders, members, and supporters not to organize activities in the party’s name without formal approval from the party secretariat, led by Dr. Oburu Odinga.
The statement emphasized ODM’s commitment to discipline, order, and structured engagement in pursuing its objectives.
Reacting to Wanga’s clarification, Salah sought to reaffirm his commitment to ODM, stating that his actions were aimed solely at strengthening the party.
“Everything I have been doing has only one purpose: to popularize and strengthen ODM,” he said. Salah described his efforts as personal contributions, insisting he had not requested or used party funds in his initiatives.
Speaking from his perspective as a long-standing supporter, Salah acknowledged that some of his activities may have caused misunderstanding within the party leadership.
“If, in that process, I have hurt you, Chairlady Wanga, I sincerely apologize. That was never my intention,” he said, while reiterating his respect for the party’s structure and leadership.
Salah’s statement highlighted his belief in revitalizing ODM to maintain relevance and connection with grassroots supporters.
He argued that a “living movement must keep moving, keep inspiring and keep reaching the people especially at the grassroots.”
According to him, his interventions were intended to energize and refresh the party, rather than bypass or undermine party protocols.
The businessman also referenced his longstanding loyalty to ODM founder Raila Odinga, popularly known as Baba, saying he had pledged support during their time in India.
“I stand with ODM because of love, loyalty, and obligation to Baba’s legacy. This party is part of his life’s work and by extension, it is part of my own duty to continue supporting it, protecting it and strengthening it,” he said.
Salah concluded by reaffirming his dedication to the party, stating, “I remain ODM. I believe in ODM. And I will continue to stand with ODM out of love for the party and out of respect for Baba.”
