Mukono residents were left in disbelief following the brutal murder of Pamela Tumwebaze, a 46-year-old Director of Student Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU).
Tumwebaze, a respected academic and resident of Gwafu West Village, Seeta Ward in Goma Division, was found dead at her home in the early hours of 11th February 2026.
According to police reports, the horrific discovery was made around 2:00 am when the houseboy noticed an unknown man inside Tumwebaze’s bedroom, wearing her jeans and stockings.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene carrying a laptop bag belonging to the deceased.
Attempts by the houseboy and the children to check on her revealed that she was unresponsive in her bed.
She was rushed to Namirembe Church of Uganda Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
The murder sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting the Uganda Police Force to deploy task teams to intensify investigations.
A few days after the incident, police reassured the public that operations were ongoing to identify, trace, and arrest the perpetrator.
“The Uganda Police Force remains fully committed to ensuring that the perpetrator is apprehended and brought to justice,” the statement read.
The investigation took a dramatic turn on 14th February 2026 when the Joint Security Task Team announced a breakthrough.
Authorities confirmed the arrest of a key suspect, identified as Taewaiko Dak Hussein, in connection with Tumwebaze’s murder.
The suspect was apprehended in Budaka District, where he was found in possession of property belonging to the deceased, a critical piece of evidence directly linking him to the crime.
Preliminary findings indicate that Dak Hussein previously worked as a house help for Tumwebaze. Police reports suggest that his prior connection to the household may have facilitated his access to the residence.
The arrest marks a significant step in the investigation, which had gripped Mukono and the wider Ugandan academic community.
The Uganda Police Force has emphasized that investigations are ongoing. Officials have promised further updates as more details emerge and as additional suspects, if any, are traced and interrogated.
The tragic murder of Tumwebaze has left colleagues, students, and neighbors grappling with grief and shock. Many described her as a committed academic and a caring mother who had dedicated her life to student welfare and education.
Social media tributes poured in, highlighting her contributions to UCU and the broader academic community.
