President William Ruto has announced plans to establish structured mechanisms for engagement between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), aiming to strengthen political cooperation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a UDA National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at State House, Nairobi, Ruto said the framework will provide a clear platform for dialogue, coordination, and partnership between the two parties.
The objective, he noted, is to build consensus on shared national priorities while supporting stable governance.
“The engagement is designed to lay the foundation for a formal coalition arrangement ahead of the 2027 elections,” Ruto said, highlighting the strategic importance of the partnership.
He emphasized that the exercise strengthened UDA structures at ward, constituency, and county levels, preparing the party for future political contests.
The move comes amid ongoing bipartisan engagements encouraged by the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) process, which has promoted cooperation between rival political formations.
While details on the scope, timelines, and formal commitments of the proposed engagement remain undisclosed, Ruto’s announcement signals a potential realignment in Kenya’s political landscape, drawing attention to the evolving dynamics between the ruling party and the largest opposition party ahead of the next general election.
