Nairobi County Executive Committee (CEC) member for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has intervened following public complaints about the treatment of a young girl at a private hospital in the city.
The CEC acted after multiple residents reported that Tracy Akinyi was allegedly being held at Al-Basrah Hospital without receiving proper medical care. The concerns prompted immediate follow-up from county officials.
Mosiria said he personally engaged Tracy’s mother, who expressed worry over the quality of care her daughter was receiving.
Discussions were also held with the attending doctors at the facility to establish the facts surrounding the case.
Following these consultations, Mosiria directed that Tracy be referred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for further treatment and comprehensive investigations.
He noted that the transfer would ensure the girl receives specialised care while providing an objective assessment of whether proper medical procedures were followed at the private facility.
“This will help ascertain whether appropriate care was provided to the patient,” Mosiria said, highlighting the need for independent evaluation.
In addition to the referral, Nairobi County has announced that its officers will audit Al-Basrah Hospital.
The review will assess whether the hospital meets Ministry of Health guidelines, Nairobi City County health regulations, and established professional standards of patient care.
The intervention comes amid growing public scrutiny of private health facilities in Nairobi, with concerns over patient welfare, accountability, and adherence to regulations.
County officials say the audit’s findings will guide further action to protect patients and uphold healthcare standards in the city.
This case has sparked widespread debate online, with residents calling for stronger oversight of private hospitals to prevent similar incidents in the future.
