Scary Facts About the 16-Storey Building That Collapsed in South C, Killing Four People

Nairobi is in mourning after a 16-storey building in South C collapsed, claiming four lives and leaving families devastated.

The tragedy has raised serious questions about construction oversight and regulatory enforcement in the city.

Investigations reveal alarming safety breaches. The building, approved for only 12 floors, had reached the 16th level at the time of collapse.

Authorities had flagged the structure three separate times for non-compliance, yet construction continued unabated.

Further scrutiny shows that the developer, Abyan Consulting Limited, had an annual practicing license issued on August 1, 2023, which expired on July 31, 2024, raising concerns over ongoing legal accountability.

Police records indicate that in July 2025, three individuals working at the site—Farah Hassan Jacub, Abdiaziz Hassan Jakub, and Wycliffe Omondi Onyango—were arrested in connection with safety violations.

They were later released on Ksh. 20,000 cash bail.

The collapse has highlighted gaps in regulatory enforcement by the Nairobi County Government.

Residents and safety advocates argue that stronger oversight could have prevented this disaster.

As the city grapples with this tragedy, citizens demand accountability from developers and regulators alike.

Nairobi County Governor Sakaja Johnson faces renewed scrutiny over the handling of construction safety standards.

While investigations continue, the focus remains on supporting the families of the victims during this period of grief.

May they find strength and peace in the midst of this sorrow.
